FAQS
It’s a lot to take in, we know.
Let’s try to clear up any mixed messages.
How does the 0.1% commitment really work?
A 0.1% commitment means directing 0.1% of your company’s revenue to the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, where contributions are tracked, managed transparently, and deployed effectively into high-impact clean energy projects.
Once committed, companies become a Point One contributor and receive a toolkit including opportunities to use the Point One brand, content for marketing materials, and membership to the Point One community — with access to unique networking opportunities, events, and updates on the projects their contribution is supporting.
Contributions over $1M can also be directed into specific regions aligned to your supply chain or business operations. Get in touch to find out which approach is best suited to your business.
Why clean energy specifically?
Transitioning to clean energy and modernising the energy system tackles the biggest contributor to climate change.
Fossil fuels account for roughly 75% of global greenhouse gas emissions and over 90% of CO₂ emissions.
By shifting to clean, cost-effective energy sources, we can make a massive dent in the problem and go a long way toward solving the climate crisis.
How do you ensure the funds are used effectively and transparently?
Our inaugural program delivery partner, the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, applies rigorous due diligence and management processes across all its global partnerships.
The impact and transparency of these processes are publicly documented and externally validated in the Global Energy Alliance’s annual Impact Report.
Projects are closely monitored, with contributors receiving regular updates every six months on the use of funds — including CO₂ emissions prevented, people reached with clean energy access, and jobs created — alongside a full breakdown of funds received and expenditures.
This is consistent with how the Global Energy Alliance reports to all its donors and partners worldwide.
Why should we commit as a company?
Point One enables companies to signal their commitment to change almost immediately — turning 0.1% of revenue into a purpose-driven investment in clean energy, strengthening consumer trust.
One simple action, part of a bigger sustainability journey. Businesses move from intention to impact, without new internal infrastructure or expertise.
With its low-barrier, flexible model, Point One transforms a fraction of existing spend into visible impact, amplified through high visibility media, celebrity, and customer engagement that builds brand value and cultural reach.
How do I know my 0.1% is actually making a difference?
Our inaugural partner, the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, is a proven platform and powerful coalition of public, private, and philanthropic partners working together to end energy poverty and drive inclusive economic growth through clean energy.
Your investment will become part of this proven, high-impact engine for change.
Will we receive information about the impact of our contributions in order to use in our own impact communications?
Yes, all contributors will receive reports twice a year on the use of funds, including CO₂ emissions prevented, people reached with clean energy access, and jobs created, alongside a full breakdown of funds received and expenditures.
Is it tax-deductible?
The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet is a non-profit organization recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the US Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended. The Global Energy Alliance is in the process of establishing a charitable organization in the United Kingdom.
Contributions may be eligible for the tax benefits generally available to donations made to charitable organizations under applicable law. Donors should obtain independent tax advice regarding the tax treatment of any contribution.
Can I opt out?
Yes, you can opt out at any point.
If I’m not able to give 0.1% right now, can I still be involved?
Yes, since Point One is built on collective action, we can create a flexible partnership plan tailored to your company’s capabilities, so you can get involved and make an impact at a level that works for you.
What kinds of projects will my 0.1% support?
From ensuring Indigenous communities in the Amazon have access to clean energy to power their lives and preserve their ecosystems, to helping farmers in Ethiopia and Nigeria use solar mini grids for irrigation, to building the first battery storage systems that bring clean energy to larger towns and cities in India, these projects enhance livelihoods, reduce carbon emissions, and unlock productive use.
Your contribution directly supports the Global Energy Alliance’s work across Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean, focusing on two core programs:
- Grids of the future: We harness the latest clean energy solutions and digital technologies to build resilient, modern energy grids of the future.
- Energy and opportunity coalition: We work with communities and governments to deliver both energy and opportunity, ensuring people can use the energy to create jobs and live better lives.

How do I talk about Point One to our consumers?
When someone buys from you, a tiny slice of that purchase is going to fund clean energy projects that bring power, jobs, and opportunity to communities that need it most. There are no extra steps for them, they’re simply buying from a business that has chosen to give back.
“When you shop with us, you help power homes, schools, and businesses with clean energy around the world.”
